Organic Raw Sea Vegetables

Sea vegetables are wild ocean plants, or marine algae, enjoyed daily as staple and healing foods in many coastal parts of the world. Small amounts of sea veggies add a rich flavor and enhance the nutritional value of most dishes. Sea vegetables are rich in minerals and trace elements, including calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, iodine, manganese, chromium and more, at levels much greater than those found in land vegetables. Sea veggies also provide vitamins, fiber, enzymes, and high quality protein. After harvesting, they are then sun-dried or low temperature air-dried, graded for quality, and monitored for possible herbicide, pesticide, heavy metal, and bacteriological contamination. This is all part of the organic certification process following OCIA Standards for harvesting and handling wild sea vegetables.

  • Organic Dulse

    Organic Dulse

Our most popular sea vegetable--with a soft chewy texture, distinctive taste and a rich red color. Dulse is a good source of vegetable protein, iron, potassium, magnesium, iodine, chlorophyll, enzymes, Vitamin A, Vitamin B's, and dietary fiber. Our Dulse is certified organic by OCIA and we voluntarily test for heavy metal, chemical, and microbiological contaminants. Enjoy dulse as a snack or a colorful salad ingredient. It is tasty in soups, zesty when fried, and boosts the flavor of any sandwich creation. Does not have to be cooked or soaked.

  • Sea Lettuce BIO

    Sea Lettuce BIO

Sea lettuce is a deep green sea vegetable with a distinctive flavor and aroma. It is very high in iron and protein (similar to dulse), and is high in iodine, aluminum, manganese and nickel as well. Like dulse and most of our sea veggies, sea lettuce provides considerable amounts of dietary fiber (31%). Since our sea veggies are low temp dried in the sun, sea lettuce enzymes are still active. Harvested and enjoyed worldwide, it is common in temperate and colder seas. Good in soups and salads. Does not have to be cooked or soaked.

  • Organic Dulse Flakes

    Organic Dulse Flakes

An especially rich source of iron, potassium, iodine, Vitamin B-6, Riboflavin, and dietary fiber, dulse provides a complete array of minerals, trace elements, enzymes and phytochemicals, as well as some high quality vegetable protein. Dulse Flakes provide the same outstanding nutrition and good taste as our whole leaf dulse at less cost per ounce. Dulse Flakes are made from selected dulse which grows in well-protected coastal passages, is easier to harvest, and gives higher yields. Great as a salt replacement in soups and salads.

Nutritional Analysis of Maine Coast Sea Vegetables

Please remember that all the statistics in this chart have only relative significance. The whole plants provide much more than the sum of their parts.

* These macronutrient guidelines are determined by assuming that an adult male's recommended daily energy intake of 2300 calories is derived from 10% protein, 30% fat, and 60% carbohydrate, according to U.S. Dietary Guidelines.

Recommended Dietary Daily allowances, or RDAs are determined by the National Academy of Sciences as nutritional guidelines for "good" health for "most" people in the USA.

Ranges of recommended daily intakes are provided by the Academy where there is insufficient information on which to determine an exact RDA. Figures in both categories are for a middle aged, middle weight, American male.

These nutritional assays were done by the Silliker Laboratories of New Jersey and the Plant and Soil Analytical Lab., University of Maine at Orono.
